 African American Studies at CSUF

As a student majoring or minoring in African American Studies at CSU Fullerton, you'll be exposed to the history, politics, culture and contemporary social realities of African-descended people within the United States and globally. You will work alongside our award-winning faculty as you develop skills in writing, critical thinking, verbal communication, community building, and prepare for further graduate study and/or a variety of meaningful careers.

Our African American Studies program is known for its rigor while meeting students where they are, guided by faculty praised for their genuine dedication to students. In our General Education courses, you’ll gain foundational knowledge about race relations, the history of African Americans, and the experiences of other racialized groups in the U.S. At the upper-division level, our specialized courses invite deeper engagement with topics such as Black LGBTQ+ issues, recreation and leisure, Hip Hop culture, and Black representations in film. Our alumni have gone on to pursue successful careers in teaching, law, mental health, social work, business, and beyond.
